Opening the batting, Lee plundered 12 fours and 12 sixes to go at a strike rate of 200 and contribute 74% of the Hurricanes’ total of 3/203 from their 20 overs all by herself.
She put on a partnership of 114 with Hurricanes captain Elyse Villani – who contributed only 14 – after they had been 2/16 as she smacked the Scorchers attack which includes Australian leg spinner Alana King and New Zealand legend Sophie Devine to all parts.
The wicket keeper batter overtook Grace Harris’ previous mark of 136 not out and the 12 times she cleared the rope was the most by any batter in a WBBL game.
Astonishingly, her record breaking knock seemingly came out of the blue as she struggled for form to start the tournament.
Lee managed only scores of 7, 18, 38, 4 and 4 in her first five games, and expressed her appreciation for the Hurricanes’ leaders keeping their faith in her.
“I have to get credit to every body in our team who kept on believing in me,” she said.
“When I was doubting myself and couldn’t stop crying, they were there, and also my family. They supported me so much.”
The 32-year-old also proved that batters are never entirely happy with their work however.
Despite producing such a scintillating knock, when she spoke with Channel Seven as he walked off the ground, all she could focus on was the last ball of the innings which she could only run down to short third for a single after blasting the two previous balls for sixes.
“I wasn’t really thinking about (the innings). I was quite angry at myself for that last shot because I didn’t know where to hit it, so I was a bit disappointed with that but I think we’ve got a good total,” she said.
