Nick Watson thrived again in the finals spotlight, while captain James Sicily was crucial whenever he touched the ball.
But a few Hawks who were massive last week struggled to replicate their standout performances.
Every Hawthorn player rated out of 10 from the semi-final loss to Port Adelaide.

1. Harry Morrison
Provided crucial run from behind the footy a few times. Finished with 23 disposals and six intercepts. 7
3. Jai Newcombe
A player just made for finals. A terrific four-quarter performance at the coalface, finishing with 31 disposals, 16v contested possessions, six clearances and six tackles. 8
4. Jarman Impey
Took a courageous mark backing back in defensive 50, thwarting a Power entry. But a little more subdued than usual, finishing with just 14 touches. 5
“Absolutely NOT” Mitchell left fuming | 09:13
5. James Worpel
Had a big influence in the second term as the Hawks worked their way into the game. Had a poor kicking efficiency, but primarily because he was at the coalface so often, finishing with 18 touches and six clearances. 6
6. James Sicily
What a skipper. Quiet start but started to get his hands on the ball more in the second term. Was shifted forward in the fourth quarter and delivered a timely goal from a stoppage. Missed a crucial set-shot in the dying stages, but his influence at both ends of the field was telling. 8
10. Karl Amon
A big nine-disposal last quarter as the Hawks came roaring home to finish with 21 for the match off half-back. 7
11. Conor Nash
Lifted significantly in the third term with eight disposals and a couple of clearances. Laid a team-high nine tackles to go with 19 disposals. 6
13. Dylan Moore
A huge second term that saw him kick a goal from seven touches and two clearances. But rushed a late set-shot attempt and hit the post when he could’ve reduced the margin to under a goal. Finished with 16 touches. 6

14. Jack Scrimshaw
One of his finest matches, Spent time on Todd Marshall. Huge in defence early when the Hawks were under siege, constantly getting in the right positions to intercept. Had 22 touches, seven rebound 50s, four intercept marks and 549m gained. 8
15. Blake Hardwick
Had some inspirational but also costly moments. Rotated through a few Hawks small forwards. Significant physical presence down back in the opening term, especially in the air. Had an unfortunate moment in the third term when his clearing kick was smothered by an unsuspecting Power player, leading to a Port goal. 5
16. Massimo D’Ambrosio
After a monster elimination final, was relatively well held by the Power. Had seven touches in the final term and was crucial in the dying stages. 5
17. Lloyd Meek
A good battle with Jordan Sweet, with the Power ruck probably taking the points. Although Meek’s ruck craft was good, while he took a few big marks. 6
Was this goal touched?!? | 00:30
18. Mabior Chol
Not his night. Made the most of a dubious free kick in the second term with a set-shot goal. But overall well beaten by Brandon Zerk-Thatcher. Had a costly moment late in the final term, called for running too far inside 50 while a teammate was free. 3
19. Jack Gunston
Just couldn’t get into the game. Subbed out just after half-time with just two kicks. 1
22. Luke Breust
As expected, started as the sub before being injected into the game at the start of the third term. Kicked a telling set-shot goal just before three quarter-time to draw the Hawks within a kick. 5
23. Josh Weddle
A quiet first two terms, but got his run and rebound game going in the third term. But let Jason Horne-Francis slip free at a forward 50 stoppage in the final quarter, leading to a Power goal. 5
25. Josh Ward
Dropped in and out of the game in terms of impact. Finished with 14 touches, one tackle and went at 38 per cent by foot. 4
Port prevail! POST denies Hawks miracle | 00:33
29. Jai Serong
Spent a lot of time on Mitch Georgiades. Boosted his confidence early with a strong one-on-one win and plucked a few pack marks. Didn’t look too overawed by the occasion, despite his lack of senior footy this year. 5
31. Connor Macdonald
Looked a little fumbly at times and lacked that slick nature Hawks fans have become accustomed to. 3
32. Finn Maginness
Very good game. Started across half-forward but dropped into defence to take a few strong marks. Snapped a brilliant goal late in the game to cut Port’s lead to under a kick. Finished with 22 touches. 7
33. Jack Ginnivan
Well, Brodie Grundy won’t be seeing him next week. Played as a high half-forward. Kicked a telling goal late in the second term during a Hawks blitz then snapped another in the fourth quarter when Hawthorn charged late. Played his role. 5
34. Nick Watson
Alohomora. The Wizard with game sense beyond his years. Drew a high free kick in the opening term but couldn’t convert the set-shot attempt. Roared to life in the third term with two brilliant set-shot goals — the second one putting Hawthorn in front. His third goal — a stunning crumbing goal at full pace — was just spectacular. Six goals in his first two finals. We have a serious footballer. 8
35. Calsher Dear
A reality check for the young forward after a brilliant elimination final. Took until halfway through the second term for his first touch — and it was Hawthorn’s first goal, nailing a set-shot attempt. Just the five touches. 3
