SIX-CLUB FIGHT FOR EMERGING GIANT
The race for emerging Giants gun James Peatling has continued to heat up in recent days, with several Victorian clubs and a suitor out west in the race for his services.
Speaking on AFL Media’s Gettable, journalist Callum Twomey reported the plethora of clubs interested in acquiring the 24-year-old out.
“The Demons, the Western Bulldogs, Collingwood, St Kilda and West Coast have also been in the market for him,” Twomey revealed.
“There’s still a chance he stays… that one’s going to be a bit of a trade period shaper.”
Co-host Riley Beveridge added context to the six-club race for Peatling, noting that GWS’ recent upping of its offer for the midfielder has left rival clubs doing the same — with genuine long-term deals now on the table.
“The Giants have upped their offer to three years, but what that does in turn is the clubs that had three years for him on the table from around the competition, have raised them now to four and potentially five years as well,” Beveridge said.
“The minute the Giants raise their offer, everyone else said ‘watch this, we’re going to raise ours as well.’
“They’re keen to hold him, but definitely that door has opened mid-season and other clubs have come through and smashed it open,” Twomey ended by saying.
Peatling has played 45 matches in the orange and charcoal since being taken in the 2021 Mid-Season Draft – with a career-high 19 games this season.
He kicked two goals from his 10 disposals and seven tackles in GWS’ semi-final loss to Brisbane a fortnight ago.

TEX’S MASSIVE HINT ON RIVAL TARGET
Veteran Adelaide Crows forward Taylor Walker has given a large hint on where free agent Giant Isaac Cumming will land this off-season.
Walker’s Crows are a known suitor of Cumming, but so are cross-town rivals Port Adelaide.
However, Walker has links to the rebounding GWS defender as they both hail from the rural Victorian town of Broken Hill.
Asked if he’d been getting in Cumming’s ear about signing up at West Lakes, ‘Tex’ turned heads with the wording of his response.
“I’ve been trying to talk to him, but I can’t get hold of him at the moment,” Walker initially joked on 104.7 Triple M.
“My word I have (spoken to Cumming) … He’ll be a great addition to our footy club, so we’ll see how that plays out over the next week or so.”
Judging the 34-year-old’s words in isolation, it sure seems he believes Cumming will make his way to the Crows next month.
Walker himself has signed another one-year deal, taking the stalwart into a 17th season at Adelaide.
