A West Coast star-in-the-making has been placed in concussion protocols after a worrying incident at training.

Prodigious midfielder Harley Reid was diagnosed with a concussion after suffering a head knock during a pre-season training session, per Seven reporter Mitch Cleary on Thursday night.

The incident is understood to have occurred on Wednesday, with West Coast understandably taking zero risks with its first-year wunderkind.
“Harley received a minor head knock during training, and we took precautionary measures,” Eagles football boss Gavin Bell said, via Channel Seven.
“I’ve spoken to him today and so has the club doctor.
“He is doing well, but as he has entered the AFL concussion protocols.”
Once deemed fit to return, Reid will train non-contact.
The Eagles’ younger players returned for their first pre-season session on Monday.

Reid, the 2023 No. 1 draft pick, averaged 18.5 disposals, 4.0 tackles, 5.0 clearances and 3.1 inside-50s per game across 20 outings in his debut AFL season — and also won this year’s Goal of the Year award.
He was stripped of his Rising Star award eligibility after being slapped with a two-game suspension for a dangerous tackle in Round 12.
The 19-year-old was named the Eagles’ Best First Year Player at the club’s post-season awards function.
