New England entered Monday only needing to lose to the Buffalo Bills, who were rest the majority of their starters, to wrap up the No.1 pick.
While the Patriots already have their quarterback of the future in Drake Maye, they could have either taken Heisman Trophy winner Travis Hunter or traded back with one of the more quarterback-needy teams.
Instead, it is the Tennessee Titans, who are one of those teams in desperate need of a franchise quarterback, who will pick first overall after they lost to the Texans.
The Cleveland Browns, meanwhile, will select second with the New York Giants third on the clock.
The Giants themselves went from having the inside track at getting the No. 1 pick in the 2025 NFL Draft to having no chance at it.
After coughing up the top spot with a surprise win over the Colts last week, the Browns’ loss to the Ravens on Sunday ensured the Giants couldn’t pick No. 1 in this year’s draft.
Both teams finished 3-14 and tied in strength of schedule, but Big Blue’s Week 3 win in Cleveland gave the Browns the tiebreaker.
