A three-time Australian Open finalist, Medvedev was fined $123,000 for his bad behaviour during his five set win over Thai wildcard Kasidit Samrej during the opening round of the tournament on Monday.
Medvedev, who arrived in Australia later than usual after becoming a father for the second time earlier in January, smashed a net camera and also destroyed his racquet during his come-from-behind win over the lowly-ranked rival.

While he joked later that he did not expect to be sanctioned severely given GoPros are “not that expensive”, authorities took a dim view of his behaviour during the match.
“The camera was very, very strong, because my racquet didn’t handle the damage, but the camera did. I was very surprised,” Medvedev said.
“The fine is usually for breaking the racquet, and the camera is going to cost some, but I don’t think Go Pro is that expensive.”
According to news.com.au, the price of a Go Pro HERO13 Black begins at $649.95, which makes the tax for the tantrum significant.
