Australia begin Day 3 of the historic Women’s day-night Ashes Test at the MCG in a commanding position, holding a first innings lead of 252 runs.

Annabel Sutherland spearheaded Australia’s emphatic second day of play, blasting 163 from 258 deliveries, to help the hosts end the day at 5-422.
However, all the attention will be fixed on Beth Mooney, who will re-enter the famous MCG later today needing just two runs to complete her maiden Test century.
Mooney’s batting, which at times appeared effortless, ensured Australia’s foot remained firmly on the gas after Sutherland’s dismissal, although the 31-year-old benefitted from a poor day in the field by the visitors.
Speaking to Fox Cricket at the conclusion of yesterday’s play, the middle-order batter admitted it would’ve been ideal to cross into triple figures before stumps, but stressed the potential for improved batting conditions on Day 3.

“It would’ve been nice to slice that cover drive a bit straighter, but it wasn’t to be,” she said.
“Better to bat in the daytime, I think.”
Australian skipper Alyssa Healy revealed her side will “try and get as far in front as we possibly can,” but indicated their eventual total may be set without any intervention from superstar allrounder Ellyse Perry.
“To be completely honest we’re still a little unsure about Pez as well. What that does to our batting lineup, we’re not sure,” she said.
Australia will begin Day 3 knowing victory in the historic Test will complete a dominant summer, and an Ashes whitewash.
