The Premier League winter transfer window has closed with Ange Postecoglou’s Spurs sealing the deadline day signing it craved.

But the biggest mover on the night was Manchester City whose total spending for the window tipped A$360m.

It’s important to note clubs can logisitcally sign players after the deadline passes if they confirm to FA bosses a deal is in place for a contract to be signed.

ANGE’S SPURS SIGN TEL

After initially rejecting a move to Tottenham, Ange Postecoglou’s club have confirmed the signing of young gun Mathys Tel.

According to Sky Sports, the 19-year-old join Spurs on loan with a $90m AUD option to buy.

If the club activate their option, the young gun would sign a six-year deal at the end of the 2024/25 season after spending time away from Bayern Munich.

Chelsea and Manchester United were also reportedly interested in Tel’s services after he was seeking a move away from the German giants due to a lack of game time.

Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy had previously flown to Munich, but was unable to convince the winger to make a permanent move to London after a $100m AUD transfer fee was agreed between clubs.

However, he reportedly had a change of heart and remained open to the move after speaking with coach Postecoglou.

That conversation was also reportedly pivotal in convincing Tel to potentially join Tottenham full-time at the end of his loan spell.

Spurs are also keen to add more defensive recruits before the window closes.

The BBC reported Crystal Palace rejected a $140m AUD million bid from Tottenham for captain Marc Guehi, who has just 18 months left to run of his contract at Selhurst Park.

Tottenham reportedly won’t make any further bids to sign the English centre back.

Palace previously turned down a host of bids in the summer, with the final offer tabled by Newcastle at the time sitting at $130m AUD.

Their resistance to let their captain go comes after injuries in their defensive ranks, with only three fit centre backs currently in their squad.

Chelsea’s Axel Disasi has been linked with a move across London, while Spurs also completed the signing of centre-back Kevin Danso from Lens on Sunday.

However, it’s since been revealed by the Telegraph that Disasi will join Aston Villa, who won the race for the 26-year-old’s signature.

CITY SEAL FOURTH SIGNING

Manchester City have confirmed the signing of Nico Gonzalez from Porto.

Pep Guardiola’s club will reportedly pay $100m AUD for the midfielder, who is set to wear the No.14 jersey previously worn by Aymeric Laporte.

City’s midfield frailties without Ballon d’Or winner Rodri, who is out for the season due to a serious knee injury, were exposed in a 5-1 thrashing at Arsenal on Sunday.

Pep Guardiola’s men find themselves in a battle just to qualify for next season’s Champions League, with the defending champions sitting fourth in the Premier League, 15 points behind leaders Liverpool.

City could also use reinforcements for a blockbuster Champions League playoff round tie against holders Real Madrid later this month.

Former Barcelona midfielder Gonzalez, 23, will reportedly arrive for a fee of $100m AUD.

City have already splashed out more than $240m AUD million in January on Egypt forward Omar Marmoush and young defenders Vitor Reis and Abdukodir Khusanov.

WILLIAN’S FULHAM RETURN

Willian has reportedly agreed to sign with Fulham, ending his time as a free agent after departing Olympiakos in December.

According to Sky Sports, the Brasilian will complete a medical on Wednesday, with his contract running until the end of the 2024/25 season.

The winger was spotted watching on in the stands at Stamford Bridge on Tuesday morning as Chelsea beat West Ham 2-1.

Willian has previously played 67 games for Fulham after joining in September 2022, scoring 10 goals and assisting seven more.

NEWCASTLE’S KELLY JOINS JUVENTUS

He’s only played four Premier League games for Newcastle, but Lloyd Kelly has signed with Juventus to join the Serie A giants.

Kelly, 26, joined Newcastle from Bournemouth last summer on a free transfer, but has already sealed a big move.

Juventus announced the transfer news on Monday morning, explaining that the decision to recruit Kelly came down to injuries, specifially to centre back Pierre Kalulu.

“Juventus are pleased to annouce the signing of versatile and talented defender Lloyd Kelly, who has signed a loan deal, with an obligation to buy, until 30 June 2025,” the statement read.

The former England Under-21 centre-back will cost the Italian giants $24.5m AUD for the permanent move.

VILLA RECRUIT ASENSIO

Aston Villa added to Unai Emery’s attacking options on Monday with the signing of Marco Asensio on loan from Paris Saint-Germain for the rest of the season.

A three-time Champions League winner during his time at Real Madrid, Asensio joins Marcus Rashford, who arrived on loan from Manchester United on Sunday, in a new-look Villa forward line.

Emery was keen for reinforcements after the departure of Colombian striker Jhon Duran to Saudi Pro League side Al Nassr last week for a reported £64 million ($79 million).

Dutch forward Donyell Malen also joined the Birmingham-based club earlier in the window from Borussia Dortmund.

Villa have qualified for the last 16 of the Champions League on their return to European football’s elite competition for the first time since 1982-83.

Emery’s men sit eighth in the Premier League but are only four points adrift of the top four in the battle for Champions League football next season.

Asensio won the Ligue 1 title in his only full season at PSG after a nine-year spell at Madrid.

But the Spanish international saw limited playing time in recent months and has not made a single start since November.

WEST HAM SECURE NEW MARKSMAN

West Ham on Monday signed Brighton striker Evan Ferguson on loan until the end of the season.

The 20-year-old Ireland international will be reunited with Graham Potter, who replaced Julen Lopetegui as manager at the London Stadium last month.

Ferguson has made 13 Premier League appearances for the Seagulls this season, but most of those have been off the bench.

Brighton boss Fabian Huerzeler said the loan would give the highly rated Ferguson much-needed game time.

“Evan has had a frustrating 12 months with injuries and for him to get back to the level he’s capable of and to continue his development, he really needs to be playing regularly,” he said.

“This loan gives him that opportunity, and under a manager he knows well. We are looking forward to watching Evan’s progress over the next few months, and we wish him well.” Ferguson has made 80 appearances in all competitions for Brighton since his debut as a 16-year-old in the League Cup under Potter, scoring 17 goals.

He will boost West Ham’s attacking options in the absence of Michail Antonio and Niclas Fuellkrug, both of whom are injured.

“It feels good to be here. Seeing the stadium and being here today, I’ve got a very good feeling,” Ferguson told West Ham TV.

“I can see and know how big West Ham United is. It was a big opportunity for me to come here. I know the gaffer well and look forward to working under him again.” Potter said Ferguson had “plenty of quality attributes” that would help the team, currently 15th in the Premier League.

MOVES OUTSIDE OF THE PREMIER LEAGUE

Belgium striker Michy Batshuayi has signed for Bundesliga club Eintracht Frankfurt from Galatasaray, the two clubs announced on Monday.

The 31-year-old, who signed for the Istanbul giants from local rivals Fenerbahce last year, has moved for a transfer fee of three million euros ($3.09 million), according to the Turkish side.

He has signed a deal with Frankfurt until 2027.

Batshuayi has not started in the Super Lig since September and has seven goals in all competitions this season.

He has scored 27 goals in 56 international appearances for Belgium but has not played for the national side since last March.

Batshuayi’s former clubs also include Besiktas, Chelsea, Marseille and Borussia Dortmund.

Frankfurt sit third in the Bundesliga table but sold top-scorer Omar Marmoush to Premier League club Manchester City in January.

Elsewhere, Napoli announced on Monday the signing of AC Milan attacker Noah Okafor following the departure of Khvicha Kvaratskhelia last month.

Switzerland’s Okafor arrives at the Serie A leaders on loan until the end of the season, with an option to buy.

Georgia’s Kvaratskhelia left Napoli in January for Paris Saint-Germain in a deal worth a reported 70 million euros ($72 million).

“Welcome Noah,” Napoli owner Aurelio De Laurentiis said on X. De Laurentiis had attempted to sign Borussia Dortmund’s Karim Adeyemi and Fenerbahce’s Allan Saint-Maximim before turning his attention to Okafor.

The 24-year-old has scored just one goal in 11 league games for Milan this season having joined from Salzburg in July 2023.

Napoli are three points ahead of second-placed Inter Milan in Serie A before they welcome Udinese on Sunday.
