Olympian Harry Garside has taken has first step towards redeeming that Paris heartbreak – and beginning his push towards a world title – following a tough, and bloody finish in his return to the professional ranks.
Fighting as pro for the first time in three years, Australia’s Olympic bronze medallist overcame an early head cut to eventually stop Queenslander Charlie Bell – although the ‘Moranbah Mauler’ was furious with the call.
After five rounds in which Garside undeniably dominated, referee Les Fear then moved into Bell’s corner and announced he was stopping the bout, due to the fighter having taken enough damage.

Bell appeared visibly upset with call, as did his travelling band of supporters, who booed loudly when the decision was announced.
“What? What? No! F*** off, no! What the f***,” he said.
Tim Tszyu declared on commentary: “I think Charlie Bell deserves to continue on. I don’t think he was ever really hurt. He was an Aussie warrior and could have continued.”

Regardless, the win represented a solid comeback for Garside, who was forced to fight with a serious cut over his left eye after the pair clashed heads heavily in the first round.
“Feels amazing,” Garside said afterwards
Asked about the stoppage, Garside said: “Charlie come here to fight. He’s a tough Aussie bloke and I’m grateful”.
