The 2025-26 NFL season opened in dramatic fashion, with Eagles defensive tackle Jalen Carter ejected from the game before even taking one defensive snap.

Carter was disqualified for unsportsmanlike conduct, with replays later showing him exchanging words with Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott before spitting on him.
“I cannot believe what I just saw,” Chris Collinsworth said in commentary.
It was a major blow for the Philadelphia defence, with Carter — the ninth overall pick in the 2023 draft — named to his first Pro Bowl in 2024 after recording 4.5 sacks, 16 quarterback hits and six passes defended.
Suddenly, the Eagles were down two players after fullback Ben VanSumeren was carted off just six seconds into the game with what looked to be a serious leg injury.
Dallas later marched up the field on its first drive of the game, with a big completion to receiver CeeDee Lamb setting up running back Javonte Williams to punch in the opening score.
The Eagles were quick to answer, however, with second-year back Will Shipley even having a nice 19-yard catch-and-run to help set Philadelphia up in the red zone and quarterback Jalen Hurts later scrambled for a four-yard touchdown.
