The second day of the World Athletics Championships got off to a rocky start for Australia, with none of the nation’s three athletes qualifying beyond the heats of the men’s 1500m.
Jude Thomas, Adam Spencer and Cameron Myers were each eliminated during the heats at Japan National Stadium on Sunday morning, posting times of 3:38.19, 3:42.17 and 3:42.75 respectively. Myers was just 0.35s away from qualifying for the semi-finals, crossing eighth in his heat.
Elsewhere, three Australians are competing in the women’s marathon – Tara Palm, Vanessa Wilson and Sarah Klein – while Liz Clay will feature in the women’s 100m hurdles heats.

Later in the evening session, sprinter Torrie Lewis will race in the women’s 100m semi-final, having set a new national record in the heats on Saturday.
The 20-year-old broke her own record with a blistering time of 11.08, which ranked third behind Jamaica’s Shericka Jackson and American superstar Sha’Carri Richardson. No Australian woman has made the 100m final at a world championships.
Elsewhere on Saturday, Jess Hull won her 1500m heat with a time of 4:04.40 while fellow Australian Lindell Hall also qualified after finishing fourth in her race with a time of 4:07.61.
