‘Unthinkable’ history as Pakistan team pulls off crazy 232-year cricket first

History was made on Saturday night in Pakistan.

There were incredible scenes at National Stadium in Karachi as Pakistan Television (PTV) set a new record in first-class cricket by defending a target of 40 against Sui Northern Gas Pipeline Limited (SNGPL) to win their President’s Trophy match by two runs.

The only place to stream every match of the 2025/26 KFC BBL LIVE is on FOX CRICKET, available on Kayo Sports. | New to Kayo? Join now and get your first month for just $1.

PTV had posted totals of 166 and 111, with Sui Northern in a strong position to comfortably claim victory having recorded 238 runs in its first innings.

It left PTV with a lead of just 39 runs but a stunning collapse saw Sui Northern fail to reach the 40-run target, even with all 10 wickets still in hand.

Instead, Saifullah Bangash’s 14 runs were the most a single Sui Northern player could manage in the second innings, with the top order collapsing as the first five batters put up just 13 runs.

Left arm spinner Ali Usman was the standout for PTV, recording figures of 6-9 to bring up a 10-wicket haul after nabbing four more in the first innings.

Fast bowler Amad Butt, meanwhile, had four wickets in the second-innings miracle and gave up 28 runs off 10 overs for an economy rate of 2.80.

It was the lowest successfully defended target in world first-class history, surpassing the 232-year-old record set when Marylebone Cricket Club bowled out Oldfield for 34 chasing 41 at the old Lord’s in 1794.
