Sydney and GWS will meet for the first time since their thrilling Qualifying Final last year against each other, with both teams desperate for four points to spring them back into form.
The Swans’ season (2-5, 94.6 per cent) head into Sydney Derby XXX with their season on a knife’s edge, sitting 15th on the ladder and facing their worst start to an AFL season since 2019 should they lose today.
Their cross-town rivals the Giants (4-3, 120.4 per cent) are amid a mini free-fall themselves, having lost back-t0-back weeks to Adelaide and the Western Bulldogs respectively.

Interestingly for Sydney though, they’ve had the wood over GWS in six of their last seven matchups, including their last four matches — the last being the 2024 Qualifying Final that they won by one goal. That being said, Dean Cox is still yet to register his first win of 2025 on home soil, having lost all three games at the SCG so far this year.
Sam Wicks, Joel Hamling and Angus Sheldrick are the home side’s three inclusions for the match, with Ben Paton (injured), Tom Hanily and Peter Ladhams (both omitted) making way.
Adam Kingsley has handed Category B rookie Josaia Delana his AFL debut in the Derby, with Callum M. Brown and Joe Fonti joining him in the starting 22. Josh Kelly and Jake Riccardi are out with injury, while Conor Stone was dropped.
The first bounce will hit the SCG turf at 1:10pm local time, with Angus Sheldrick (Swans) and Jake Stringer (Giants) the respective substitutes.
