Geelong coach Chris Scott says the “early signs are good” with Gryan Miers after the Cats small forward was knocked out by Conor Nash in the Easter Monday win over Hawthorn.
But there remains uncertainty around Miers’ status ahead of two crucial games in 12 days for Scott’s side.

Nash was reported for the act in the third quarter of Monday’s MCG match, with the Hawks midfielder to face scrutiny from the Match Review Officer in an act that warrants a minimum three-week ban.

Meanwhile Miers was instantly subbed out of the match but seen in good spirits in the rooms afterwards. The Cats play Carlton this Sunday then Collingwood six days later on the Saturday in Round 8.

Asked on Fox Footy’s AFL 360 how Miers was doing, Scott said: “It’s hard to say.
“Sometimes you speak to a guy who’s been knocked out and you can tell he’s in a bad way. He wasn’t in that state.
“(Miers) said: ‘Clearly I was affected, but now I feel great’. It’s unlikely he’s telling me the whole truth, but at least the initial signs are good.
“It’s hard to watch.”
Scott conceded “the next 24 hours tell a lot,” but stressed he wouldn’t be overbearing with the small forward.
“What I know he doesn’t need is the coach hassling him for the next 24 hours. We’ve got a team that will make sure he’s looked after as well as possible,” the Cats coach continued.

As for the opposition camp, Hawks coach Sam Mitchell said his thoughts were with Miers when also quizzed on the matter as a suspension looms for Nash.
“As soon as I saw him coming off with concussion, you recognise it’s probably going to be a report and go to the MRO,” Mitchell said on AFL 360.
“My thoughts first and foremost go to Gryan and make sure he’s OK, no one wants to see that concussion in the game.
“‘Nashy’ doesn’t have a reputation for anything like that, so I’m sure that’s not what his intention was. But thoughts to Gryan and leave it to the MRO.”
Mitchell acknowledged Nash was below his best after the incident but said he didn’t “specifically” address it with his side.
“You obviously go to ‘Nashy’. There’s still a game to be played and a bigger thing that’s going to play out as far as MRO and making sure Gryan is OK and those things,” the Hawthorn coach continued.
“But ‘Nashy’ still had a role to play for the team. We did what we could to make sure his head was still in the game. But to be honest he probably struggled a bit after that.”
