AFL closes probe into alleged ‘inappropriate touching’ by Lions player on Swans rival

The AFL Integrity Unit has closed its investigation into an incident of “potential inappropriate touching” by a Brisbane player to a Sydney opponent last Saturday.

The Lions and Swans had been in communication with the league and were “aware of the AFL’s enquiries”, reported Nine’s Tom Morris on Monday afternoon.

Morris said there was “no complaint” from the Sydney player, with the league moving to put a full stop on the matter on Monday evening.

FOX FOOTY, available on Kayo Sports, is the only place to watch every match of every round in the 2025 Toyota AFL Premiership Season LIVE in 4K, with no ad-breaks during play. New to Kayo? Join now and get your first month for just $1.

A statement from the league read: “Following enquires by the AFL Integrity Unit into an incident during the Brisbane Lions and Sydney Swans match on Saturday, it has been determined that no further action is required.”

Foxfooty.com.au understands a still image made the incident appear much worse than it was in motion. On video, it was essentially a non-event.

Foxfooty.com.au has chosen not to name the players involved.

Herald Sun journalist Jon Ralph reported on X: “The incident in question sees the Lions player try to keep his feet amid a tangle of legs after a marking contest. If there is contact, it’s extremely brief and totally accidental. Seems absolutely nothing to it.”

Brisbane said earlier on Monday in a statement: “The club is aware the AFL Integrity Unit is looking into an alleged incident from Saturday’s match against Sydney. While this process is being conducted, the club will not be commenting at this point.”

Morris earlier reported that the incident was “initially viewed through a Match Review Officer lens” before being referred to the league’s Integrity Unit.

In 2023, the AFL suspended Gold Coast’s Touk Miller one game in 2023 after committing a ‘squirrel grip’ act against Brisbane’s Dayne Zorko.

In 2020, Richmond’s Nick Vlastuin and Jayden Short were made to apologise for inappropriately touching teammate Mabior Chol during their song celebration.

Saturday afternoon’s fixture saw plenty of drama off-field, too, with a crowd brawl erupting post-siren between Lions and Swans fans.

Sydney upset Brisbane by two points at the Gabba in a top-four-shaping result, with the reigning premiers unexpectedly finishing the round in fifth position.
