The AFL Grand Final Parade has been changed again – don’t worry, it’s not going back onto the Yarra River – taking what the league calls a “more fan-friendly” route to allow supporters to see their favourites the day before the big game.
On the Grand Final public holiday in Melbourne, Friday September 27, hundreds of thousands of people are expected to pack the Melbourne Park and Birrarung Marr precincts to see the players and coaches from the competing sides.
It will be shown exclusively live on Fox Footy and Kayo from 10:30am AEST.

After hot conditions in 2023 parked an unpleasant, dusty experience for fans along Birrarung Marr, the route has been tweaked to begin at Melbourne Park Oval near Rod Laver Arena.
The players and coaches will then travel through the tennis precinct, across the bridge towards Birrarung Marr but then turning back towards the MCG and Yarra Park, heading into the Footy Festival area.
It’s there where the teams will be presented along with the premiership cup around midday.
The new route means fans can travel to Richmond, Flinders Street or Jolimont Stations and have a short walk to see their favourites.
“Each year we are looking to deliver a more fan and family friendly event and create better viewing opportunities for Parade goers who are enjoying the Grand Final week festivities and the public holiday in Victoria,” AFL CEO Andrew Dillon said.
“The new route through Melbourne Park Precinct, Birrarung Marr into the Footy Festival creates more viewing opportunities and allows more people to cheer on their favourite players as the Toyota HiLux vehicles go past.”
The pre-parade entertainment begins at 9am at Melbourne Park Oval including Sherrin giveaways, food and beverage offerings, live music and AFL legends in attendance, while the parade will be shown on a big screen.
There will also be a Birrarung Marr live site with a big screen and food and beverage options, along with a giant inflatable Sherrin.
The Footy Festival itself will run from Wednesday September 25 to Saturday September 28 in Yarra Park, including the new Schweppes Ice Rink.
