The 2024 AFL Grand Final is locked in, with theSydney Swans to face the Brisbane Lions after a stunning thrillride at the MCG on Saturday.
Remarkably it will be a 125-year rematch (of sorts), as the last time the Swans and Lions faced off for the flag was the 1899 VFL Grand Final, back when both clubs were based in Victoria as South Melbourne and Fitzroy respectively.

WHAT TIME DOES THE AFL GRAND FINAL START?
The 2024 AFL Grand Final starts at 2:30pm AEST on Saturday September 28 at the MCG.
The pre-game entertainment featuring Katy Perry is likely to start between 1pm and 1:30pm AEST, with details TBC.
Victoria has a Grand Final public holiday on Friday September 27.
HOW TO WATCH THE AFL GRAND FINAL
The 2024 AFL Grand Final will be broadcast live on Seven and 7Plus, and you can stream a replay on Kayo Sports.
The Grand Final can be streamed using the 7Plus app (if your device has the live TV feature enabled) and will finally be shown at better than 720p quality (depending on the speed of your internet connection).
These devices are compatible: Computer web browser, iOS devices (iPhone and iPad), Android devices (both phones and tablets), Telstra TV, Fetch TV, Apple TV (4th Generation and newer), Android TV (compatible with Google-certified Android TV OS), Samsung TV (compatible with Samsung Tizen OS), PlayStation 4 and 5, Chromecast, LG TV (models released in 2017 and newer).
Otherwise to watch it live on TV you will need free-to-air channels, or even a simple antenna plugged into the coaxial input on your TV.

WHO IS PLAYING IN THE AFL GRAND FINAL?
The Sydney Swans face the Brisbane Lions in the 2024 AFL Grand Final.
The Swans are trying to win their sixth V/AFL premiership, and their third since relocating to Sydney, joining the 2005 and 2012 triumphs.
The Lions are hoping to claim their fourth V/AFL premiership since the merger of Brisbane and Fitzroy 28 years ago, adding to their 2001, 2002 and 2003 crowns.
WHEN WILL THE AFL GRAND FINAL FINISH AND WHAT IF THERE’S A DRAW?
The 2024 AFL Grand Final will finish just after 5pm AEST, depending on quarter lengths and whether extra time is required.
Extra time would be required if scores are level at full-time. Both teams would have a six-minute break before the game resumes with two three-minute halves (plus time on). Teams swap ends after each half without a break.
An extra 10 interchanges are permitted in each half and do not roll over.
If scores are still level after the first extra time, another two halves of extra time would be played.
WHO IS PRESENTING THE PREMIERSHIP CUP AND MAJOR AWARDS?
A club great from each competing team is expected to be nominated to hand over the cup to the winning coach and captain after the Grand Final.
These individuals will be confirmed in Grand Final week.
Three-time Geelong premiership player Steve Johnson will present the Norm Smith Medal to the player voted as best-on-ground.
Four-time premiership coach David Parkin will present the Jock McHale Medal to the premiership coach.
Geelong 1963 premiership captain Fred Wooller will present the first Ron Barassi Medal to the premiership captain.
West Coast 2018 premiership player Josh Kennedy, as the premiership cup ambassador, will deliver the trophy to the MCG on Grand Final day.
CAN I GET TICKETS TO THE AFL GRAND FINAL?
There are no general public tickets available to the Grand Final unless you purchase an expensive package, with all tickets allocated to clubs, members and corporates.
WHO IS THE 2024 AFL GRAND FINAL ENTERTAINMENT?
US pop star Katy Perry will headline the pre-game entertainment at the MCG.
The singer behind hits including ‘Roar’, ‘Teenage Dream’, ‘Firework’ and ‘Dark Horse’ will return to the ground after featuring at the final of the 2020 ICC T20 Women’s World Cup.
She’ll be supported by Aussie artists including singer/swimmer Cody Simpson, who will sing the national anthem, Christine Anu and Zipporah Corser-Anu, with the mother-daughter pair to perform for the First Nations Ceremony alongside the Songlines Youth Choir, and of course Mike Brady who will perform during the AFL retiree motorcade ceremony.
WHO IS RUNNING IN THE GRAND FINAL SPRINT?
The traditional 100-metre dash is expected to take place before the Grand Final, with one entrant from each AFL club.
Last year Geelong’s Max Holmes won the event.
