AFL great Gary Ablett Sr is reportedly selling over 200 of his individual awards to the highest bidder.
Former Port Adelaide player Kane Cornes revealed the news this week, with Ablett Sr to auction off his many awards through a sports memorabilia company.
Ablett has one of the game’s most decorated careers, including three Coleman Medals and famously the Norm Smith Medal in Geelong’s losing 1989 Grand Final side, when he booted nine goals.

“Gary Ablett Sr, his catalogue is being pieced together right now,” Cornes said on SEN’s Sportsday.
“So all of Gary Ablett Sr’s personal items are up for sale. We’re talking the Leigh Matthews 1993 trophy, we’re talking the 1989 Norm Smith Medal, we’re talking the Coleman Medals, we’re talking boots, jumpers … 200 plus items of Gary Ablett Sr’s are up for sale.
“He is selling everything. Some items I’m assuming will be packaged up. There’s posters, there’s signs, there’s his Geelong guernsey, there’s his boots.
“Anything Gary Ablett related, he has kept it all, there’s 200 plus items.”
Cornes added the first of the items, his Leigh Matthews 1993 trophy for being the game’s MVP that year, was being sold by company Entertainment by Vin.
“I’m hoping there is a rich Geelong businessman who is down there that buys the really special items and it can go into a museum or it can go to the club,” Cornes said.
“That’s my hope for it.”
Ablett played 248 games in his career, with 242 of them coming at the Cats.
He was Geelong’s leading goalkicker on nine occasions and an All-Australian four times.
