Geelong and Essendon have announced their sides for the opening game of the official AFL pre-season competition, the AAMI Community Series, to be played on Tuesday night.

The Cats are nearly at full strength in their tune-up for the Thursday night season opener against Brisbane, with Tyson Stengle and Lawson Humphries returing from Indigenous All-Stars duties.
Impressive youngsters Mitch Knevitt and Connor O’Sullivan are set to make their cases for Round 1 selection, but Bailey Smith is absent with Seven’s Xander McGuire reporting Smith had a light week at training after a knee knock against the Hawks in their match simulation.
Sam De Koning has been named in the ruck after spending much of the pre-season in the role.
Returning for Essendon after missing their practice match against the Bulldogs are Sam Durham, Ben McKay and Jade Gresham but Mason Redman is absent.
Other notables missing for Geelong include veteran ruck Rhys Stanley, who is an emergency, Tanner Bruhn, and injured pair Toby Conway and Cam Guthrie. For Essendon those left out of the 26 include Saad El-Hawli and Jye Menzie, plus injured players Matt Guelfi and Alwyn Davey Jnr.
