As reported by SEN’s Sam Edmund on Monday night, the league’s review — which was first flagged in late October of last year — has been completed. However, the AFL has chosen not to disclose whether it has forced the Cats to intertwine the sponsorship money involved into its soft cap.
Edmund said that the AFL’s reason for non-disclosure was that if it was to reveal its findings on Geelong, every player, coach or staff member with a commercial arrangement would need to have their club’s cap position made public.
The investigation was opened after Scott was announced in an original role at Morris Finance under the title ‘Chief of Leadership’. The promotion of logos and intellectual property by Morris Finance in regards to Scott’s new role are believed to have been a cause for concern, as well as implications on Geelong’s soft cap.
His new role is believed to have given him a change in title, but not a change in salary.
A rule introduced at the back end of 2024 allows senior coaches to have one-fifth of their salary paid outside of the soft cap.
Geelong’s home-and-away season begins in Round 1 against Fremantle on Saturday, March 15 at GMHBA Stadium.
