WARNER CALL ‘UP IN THE AIR’
Swans star Chad Warner admits his massive contract call is “up in the air” as he prepares to decide on where he’ll be playing in 2026.
Warner is arguably the biggest name out of contract in 2025 as both Fremantle and West Coast circle the West Australian midfielder.
The 23-year old in an interview with AFL Media said he was no hurry to make a call and is “open-minded” on what’s next for his career.
“I’m obviously out of contract and just enjoying Sydney at the moment to be honest. I’m very open to everything,” Warner told AFL Media.
“It’s obviously a big decision that I’ve got to make this year and I obviously want to make the right decisions, that’s why I’m very open-minded and chilled about it.
“It’s all up in the air. At the moment I just want to keep my options and my mind as open as it can be, to be honest.”
Warner took his game to elite heights in 2024, emerging as one of the superstar on-ballers of the competition for minor premier Sydney and claiming his first All-Australian blazer.
Despite the obvious pull to return to his home state, Warner reaffirmed how much he was enjoying his time at the Swans.
“The one thing that I do know the most is that I love playing with these boys and love playing in Sydney so I don’t want to make the wrong decision either way,” he added.
“I’m just playing the year and seeing how it goes.”
The Swans will be hoping to bounce back from a horror 60-point loss to Brisbane under new coach Dean Cox, who replaced John Longmire this off-season after 14 campaigns in the role.

ROWELL LIKELY TO RE-SIGN WITH SUNS
Matt Rowell says he’s likely to re-sign with the Suns beyond 2025 as the club aspires to be a “serious footy team” this year.
The Victorian midfielder is reportedly being pursued by clubs from his home state, with Geelong, Collingwood and Essendon all believed to be circling the former Pick 1.
Asked if he was likely to re-sign with Gold Coast, who hasn’t played finals since entering the AFL in 2011, Rowell responded: “Yeah, I think so.
“That’ll happen when we get to it, but I’m just focused on the season coming up and winning our first game.
Rowell said there was “no time frame” on when he was going to make a call on his future as he remains focused on the upcoming campaign.
It’s the first time 23-year old, who’s been added to the Suns’ leadership group for 2025, has spoken about his contract situation.
He was one of three new faces added to Gold Coast’s leadership along with Ben King and Wil Powell to support new skipper and good friend Noah Anderson, who was drafted one pick after Rowell in the 2019 National Draft.
“It’s a really special relationship me and ‘Noz’ (Anderson) (have),” Rowell added.
“I’m just really excited to get behind him and I think he can be a great captain for this footy club. I’m keen to play another season with him.”
