7:45AM – BLUES FORWARD’S MANAGER ‘FILTHY’ AT ‘WILDLY INACCURATE’ REPORT

Matthew Owies’ agent has slammed an eyebrow-raising report that the forward’s salary demands are behind his lack of serious suitors.

The Herald Sun on Tuesday reported Owies was in search of a lucrative multi-year deal worth around $700,000 to $800,000 per season.

SEN reporter Sam Edmund revealed he was in contact with Owies’ agent, Matt Bains, who is said to have vehemently denied claims Owies is hunting big money.

“I spoke to Owies’ manager (Matt Bain) last night, and he said the reports of his salary were wildly inaccurate, completely false,” Edmund told AFL Trade Radio on Wednesday morning.

“His manager was filthy. This has done Matt Owies’ reputation no favours, unfortunately.

“He is not asking for $700-800,000 though, that is not true at all.”

It is understood the 27-year-old Owies — who remains unsigned at Carlton despite booting a career-high 33 goals this year — doesn’t have any serious suitors at the present time.

6AM – WHAT DEAL GETS DONE TO UNLOCK THE TRADE PERIOD?

After no trades on Tuesday, it’s anticipated the deals could start flowing on Wednesday with several moves inching closer to completion.

Speaking on Fox Footy’s Trading Day, Herald Sun journalist Josh Barnes tipped three deals which could be completed in the coming hours.

“Jack Lukosius likely (for) a future first, we think that deal will be done sending him to Port Adelaide (from Gold Coast),” Barnes explained.

“James Peatling I don’t think will be too far away, a future second, I think, coming from Adelaide (to GWS), and Pick 13 is going to be the big one over the next 48 hours or so.

“Collingwood leading the race, John Noble up to Gold Coast as part of that, we’ll see how that shakes out but that opens up Dan Houston to make his move from Port Adelaide.”

Houston is one of the rare players who has requested a trade to Victoria without nominating a specific club; Carlton and Collingwood are the leading contenders due to their list quality and ability to trade for the pick 13 (which would be the centrepiece of the Houston deal).

But the Blues have only offered their top two future picks for the Suns’ selection, wanting to remain in the 2024 draft which is viewed as deep and talented.

North Melbourne is also a fringe contender with Houston believed to be less interested in playing for the perennial strugglers, but their offer of a future first-round pick is juicy.

There’s also a watch on Jake Stringer, who could request a trade to GWS within the next 48 hours if Adam Kingsley’s club decides it’s happy to recruit the talented but troubled 30-year-old.
