Another enthralling chapter in the storeyed Geelong-Hawthorn rivalry novel will be written on Easter Monday when the two flag fancies clash at a packed MCG.
The Cats (3-2) will enter Monday’s clash with confidence off the back of two strong wins against Melbourne and Adelaide, while they’ll also be boosted by the return of five-time All-Australian star Tom Stewart.
The Hawks (5-1), who dropped polarising small forward Jack Ginnivan for the match, haven’t beaten Geelong since 2022 and have lost five of their past six matches against the Cats. But an Easter Monday win would take them to 6-1 for the first time since 2014.

However the Hawks will be keen to address an alarming trend. Despite being seen as one of the best ball movement teams in the competition, they’re ranked just 15th in defensive 50 to inside 50 transition.
“We probably need to debunk a myth … we think they’re a great ball movement team and go from one end of the ground to the other with great precision and speed. We think this happens all the time. But they actually haven’t been, it’s actually been a struggling part of their game,” triple premiership Lion Jonathan Brown told Fox Footy’s On the Couch.
Geelong pulled a late change for a fifth-straight week, with Ted Clohesy replacing Oisin Mullin (hip).
This match gets underway at 3.20pm (AEST) from the MCG.
