Reserve wicketkeeper Josh Inglis has sent a timely reminder to national selectors of his batting credentials, blasting a rapid century during the Cricket Australia XI match against the England Lions in Perth.
Unbeaten on 44 overnight, the 30-year-old raced towards triple figures in 92 deliveries at Lilac Hill on Monday, hitting 15 boundaries and two sixes to help the hosts chase the 232-run target in just 45 overs. He finished unbeaten on 125 from 107 balls as the Cricket Australia XI sealed a comfortable eight-wicket victory over the tourists.
The Lions bowling attack featured Test quicks Matthew Potts and Josh Hull, along with England spinners Will Jacks and Tom Hartley.

Inglis, named in Australia’s squad for the Ashes series opener in Perth, cracked a century on Test debut against Sri Lanka in Galle earlier this year, while he has become a regular member of the national white-ball teams.
If middle-order dynamo Travis Head is promoted to opener following his scintillating century at Perth Stadium on Saturday, it could create a vacancy in the middle order for Inglis’ Test return. However, all-rounder Beau Webster will also be vying for a spot in the starting XI having missed selection for the first Test against England.
Earlier in the Lilac Hill match, Ashes hopefuls Jacob Bethell and Will Jacks scored 44 and 30 respectively, while West Australian seamer Jhye Richardson produced 20 wicketless overs in a promising return from injury.
Elsewhere, Queensland opener Matthew Renshaw notched a century on day two of the pink-ball Sheffield Shield clash against Victoria at the Gabba to put himself firmly back into Test calculations
The second Ashes Test between Australia and England gets underway at the Gabba on December 4.
