Cameron Smith is tied for the lead with Rasmus Neergaard-Petersen with four holes to play in the final round of the Australian Open at Royal Melbourne.

The Australian held the outright lead before dropping a shot at the 12th, while the Dane made back-to-back at 12 and 13 before Smith responded with a birdie at 14.

They are both -14 overall with Smith two-under for the day with four birdies on his card.

His only blemishes came via the unfortunate set back of a bad bounce off a pine cone costing him a shot at the sixth, and at the 12th he failed to get up-and-down from the greenside bunker closest to the pin.

Playing partner Si Woo Kim is also in the mix at -13 after he too birdied 14.

Two shots off the pace are New Zealand’s Daniel Hillier and South Africa’s Michael Hollick, who has stormed home with the low round of the day so far – a six-under par 65.

Meanwhile, Adam Scott dropped a monster birdie putt at the par 4 eighth to remind his rivals that he is not out of it, but the veteran will need to go on a mighty back nine run as he sits four shots off the lead with three holes remaining in his round.

AUS OPEN LEADERBOARD

Another bumper crowd came to see Rory McIlroy, but the Masters champion is out of contention at -7 for the tournament.

McIlroy did give the spectators some late fireworks, however, making back-to-back birdies at 17 and 18 to finish on a high and sign off on a two-under final round 69.

Further up the leaderboard, Min Woo Lee (-8) has endured a disappointing day, dropping two shots from where he started the day.
