Sixers star Josh Philippe copped one of the unluckiest dismissals in BBL history after he was run-out by accident at the nonstriker’s end after a bowler’s dropped catch hit the stumps.

On the first ball of the ninth over of the Sydney Smash Challenger final, with the Sixers on 2-50, Moises Henriques and Philippe were both 16 not-out and building a nice 31-run partnership when disaster struck.
Henriques blasted the ball back to the bowler and its smashed through Sangha’s hands onto the stumps, with Philippe well short of his ground.
“He might have got the run-out, he has,” Mark Howard said on Fox Cricket.
“The catch has gone down but Philippe is gone in the worst possible way.
“He dropped the catch, it ran onto the stumps and Philippe was nowhere.”
Mark Waugh believes the rotten luck was testament to the tough patch of form that Philippe has found himself in late in the season.
“That’s what happens when you are having a run of outs, you get run-out at the bowlers end,” Waugh said.
“Tanveer Sangha didn’t want anything to do with the shot back, it was hit so hard.
“He tried to get his hand out of the way and he ended up getting a finger on it and it has deflected straight onto the stumps and no time for Philippe to get back.
“It was hit so hard. Philippe was thinking, he is going to hit it anywhere but straight back at the bowler, but he did and Tanveer straight onto the hand and onto the stumps.”

Mike Hussey lamented the unlucky dismissal came just as Philippe was finding touch, after blasting two fours in his 16 off 12 balls.
“He had no chance there Philippe,” Hussey said.
“It’s not like he was too far down either, it just came back so quickly.
“He was just starting to get going as well Josh Philippe, but he goes for 16 and they are 3 for 50.”
