Replacement hero Jake Weatherald has revealed the crazy lead-up to his stunning return to the Strikers’ line-up that saw him belt arguably the best knock of BBL13.
Weatherald came in as an injury replacement for Chris Lynn who suffered a hamstring injury and proceeded to belt 80 not out off 32 balls including nine fours and five sixes in a remarkable match winning innings.
“That was pretty cool to be fair,” Weatherald said on Fox Cricket.

“It was obviously a bit of a shock to be playing in general. The batters have been going really well this year, so I sort of have just been watching and in awe of what the batters have been doing, so to be able to contribute was great.
“It has probably been a couple of years brewing to be fair.
“I have been working so hard on my T20 cricket. I felt as though while I hadn’t taken the opportunity there was something brewing there.
“It was just nice to go out there on a nice wicket and get an opportunity to get myself in and going and once that happened I was just able to play freely which was great.”
Weatherald has made a century in a Big Bash final, but revealed this was his greatest knock in his career to date.
“That’s just the nature of the beast with T20 cricket and we had a really good batting order, so I found myself out of the side and having to go back to the drawing board and figure out ways to contribute,” Weatherald said of his omission from the side.
“It was good to come out and contribute when we needed it.
“In retrospect that is the best I have batted ever really.
“The Big Bash final I came off some good scores so I was full of confidence.
“Here I was sitting there thinking I wasn’t going to play again this year.
“I got a call at 12 o’clock at night saying, you’re playing. So I thought I have got nothing to lose so I might as well go out and swing hard.”
