Emerging West Coast superstar Harley Reid has clinched this year’s Goal of the Year for his remarkable showing of athleticism against Melbourne in Round 10.
The 19-year-old burst out of the centre square in his side’s 35-point win over Melbourne, taking two two bounces after gathering the ball before sealing the deal from 50 metres out in a breath-taking play.
His goal edged out the twice-nominated Nick Daicos, who showed similar levels of athleticism with nominations for majors against Gold Coast and Brisbane.

Speaking to Channel 7 host Hamish McLachlan after claiming the award, Reid looked in some sort of disbelief.
“It’s been a hell of a year,” Reid begun by saying up on stage, before vaguely recounting the moment.
“We won a hitout, then (I) just got the ball – thought I’d take one bounce… and I’ve just gone bang I guess; it was lucky enough to go through,” Reid explained with a grin.
“It was a bit of a blur to be honest, it didn’t really feel like it was happening.”
And asked by McLachlan which award he would prefer out of the Mark and Goal of the Year, Reid gave a cheeky response to end the interview.
“Now probably Mark of the Year,” he joked.
Reid’s goal earned him a cool, hard $50,000 cash, with AFL sponsors NAB donating an additional $10,000 to his junior footy club, the Tongala Football Netball club in country Victoria.
