Bizarre timing of Dragons star’s ‘interesting’ try celebration raises eyebrows

Dragons winger Christian Tuipulotu’s try celebrations during his team’s loss to the Bulldogs have raised some eyebrows.

Tuipulotu made several ‘make it rain’ signals to the crowd after his two second half tries. The timing of the celebration after the first of those tries particularly could be considered bizarre given the Dragons were still three tries behind on the scoreboard with 23 minutes to play.

The winger also made a ‘show me the money’ signal during the animated celebration.

“It’s an interesting celebration when you’re down by 18,” Michael Ennis said on Fox League.

When Tuipulotu completed his hat-trick in the 73rd minute, he didn’t shy away from another celebration.

“The paper’s out again. He gets a hat-trick here at Kogarah,” Ennis said.

“The money’s going everywhere. He’s cashing in Tuipulotu. What an afternoon for the winger.”

It’s unknown if the celebration was a pointed message towards anyone or any team.

Dragons skipper Damian Cook didn’t know the meaning of it either when asked about it in the post-match press conference, but did defend Tuipolutu.

“No (I don’t know), but he’s someone who does bring the energy around the locker room and he’s great to have around the place.

“He’s always positive, he’s a character of the game and we love him and that’s why the fans love him.”

Try celebrations aside, Tuipolutu was one of the best afield.

He finished with three tries, 174 running metres, six tackle busts and three line breaks.
