Essendon’s Nic Martin will meet with his surgeon imminently after a training mishap prompted the Bombers star to undergo fresh scans on his reconstructed knee.
Martin, who ruptured his ACL against Richmond in mid-July, was one of the first Bombers players back at the club’s headquarters on Monday last week for the first official day of pre-season training.
The 24-year-old, who was using dual Norm Smith Medallist Will Ashcroft’s efficient comeback from his ACL injury as inspiration for his own rehab, had been tracking well in his recovery.

But AFL Media reported on Monday night that Martin had slipped over at a training session last week, leading to scans on his injured knee.
The Bombers later confirmed Martin would “consult with his surgeon in the coming days to determine the best course of action”.
“Nic Martin has undergone scans on his reconstructed knee after slipping at training last week,” the club said in a statement to AFL Media.
“The club will provide an update once Nic has met with the surgeon and the matter has been reviewed by our medical and high-performance team.”
Martin was one of several players caught up in the club’s injury crisis this year, with the Bombers using a league-high 44 players, which included 15 debutants.
The Subiaco product has quickly established himself as one of Essendon’s best and most important players, finishing eighth, sixth, second and fifth in his first four Bombers best and fairest counts.
Martin has kicked 62 goals from 83 AFL games since being picked up during the supplemental selection period (SSP) before the 2022 season.
