Melbourne Vixens coach Simone McKinnis has shocked the netball community by announcing 2025 will be her last season in charge.
Taking the Fox Netball microphone as part of celebrations into 200 games coached, McKinnis stunned host Bianca Chatfield when she revealed she would not be at the club in 2026.

“I’ve had an amazing time, hopefully we get some more wins in the next couple of games, certainly enjoyed it. I’m grateful and feel privileged,” she said of her career.
“I feel happy and proud to be able to walk away at the end of the year and hand it over to somebody else to take the reins.
“It’s a challenging decisions but good grief I’ve had 13 years! … and I’ve loved every one of them.
“But it’s time to move on.”
While speaking to a clearly shocked Chatfield, McKinnis flagged big changes coming for the club in 2026.
“There’s lots of changes ahead for the club and Netball Victoria and it’s time for me to move on to give that clear space for the decisions that happen from here. It was important that I let everybody know.”
“That is huge news!” Chatfield added.
“That must have been a tough decision to make.
“From players that have had you in the past like myself, it’s been an absolute privilege.
“It’s not the end yet.”
The two-time championship coach has spent the last 13 years at the helm of the Vixens, leading the club to an impressive three minor premierships and four grand final appearances.
McKinnis’ on-air bombshell shocked those at John Cain Arena on Sunday, with the club later releasing a statement.
“Simone is respected and greatly admired by everyone involved with the Vixens, particularly the players, and will forever be a part of the Vixens family,” Netball Vic CEO Andrea Pearman said.
“While Simone’s focus for now is on lifting the team into another finals series and achieving more success, we will ensure that over the coming months we fittingly celebrate all she has achieved across the past 13 years.”
The Vixens are adamant a mid-season announcement on McKinnis’ future will allow the club adequate time to find a new coach in time for the 2026 season.
