Boxing’s first undisputed heavyweight champion in 24 years goes up against the man he beat to claim the crown once again as Oleksandr Usyk faces Tyson Fury in Saudi Arabia. Live from 9.15am AEDT!
BOXING: INOUE VS GOODMAN | FRI 24 JAN 7PM AEDT | Australia’s Sam Goodman is set for a blockbuster fight against undefeated Naoya ‘The Monster’ Inoue in Tokyo | Order Now with Main Event on Kayo Sports.
Usyk (22-0) claimed a split decision win in their first fight, and now puts up all of his titles except the IBF belt, which he vacated and is now held by Daniel Dubois.
Fury (34-1-1) is hoping to avenge his only professional loss, with a reported $US190 million purse and potential trilogy fight at stake.
‘JUST RIDICULOUS’: 19YO PHENOM DESTROYS AUSSIE
While all eyes were naturally on Usyk and Fury, there was another reason for Australian boxing fans to tune into Sunday’s fight card, with Demsey McKean facing off against unbeaten heavyweight prospect Moses Itauma.
But McKean was no match for the undefeated 19-year-old phenom, who secured a stunning first-round knockout to continue his rapid rise towards a future world title.
McKean looked slick with his striking early but the power of Itauma was undeniable, landing a left hand and then another shortly after, with this one sending the Australian crashing to the canvas.
McKean was able to get back to his feet but hardly looked in a position to challenge Itauma, who landed a strong shot to the body and then finished him off with another big left hand.
DAZN blow-by-blow commentator Adam Smith said it was “just ridiculous” how Itauma continues to dispose of “seasoned campaigners”, adding McKean to his list of victims.
McKean entered Sunday’s fight with a 22-1 record while Itauma improved to 11-0 with the win.
