The Brisbane Bullets have reportedly released former NBL champion and MVP Jaylen Adams after just 13 games with the club.

As first reported by CODE Sports, sources indicate the decision followed Wednesday night’s loss to New Zealand, where the club initiated the process to terminate his contract.

Adams, who joined the Bullets in July amid much fanfare as one of the organisation’s most promising import signings, struggled to meet expectations early in the season.

The 2022 MVP averaged a career-low 12.8 points per game and was reportedly under scrutiny for on-court demeanour and work ethic concerns.

The Bullets later on Friday afternoon confirmed Adams’ departure, with the club moving “decisively over the last 24 hours to secure an elite import signing.”

Bullets CEO Malcolm Watts said the club had “acted swiftly to recruit high-calibre talent as the team reshapes its roster”.

“We are making quick, decisive moves to ensure our import spots are filled with elite talent as soon as possible,” Watts said.

“Our club, our fans and our partners deserve a team that represents Brisbane with pride and professionalism.

“There will be two major announcements coming in the immediate future.”

According to ESPN, the Bullets are now chasing two new imports — one to replace Adams and another to cover for Casey Prather, who’s been ruled out for the rest of the season following knee surgery.

In the meantime, Lamar Patterson, currently listed as the team’s Nominated Replacement Player, is expected to move into the active line-up.

MORE TO COME.
