Test all-rounder Cameron Green is just days away from a cricketing comeback in the UK which looms as crucial in a potential return for the World Test Championship final.
Green, who hasn’t played a game since an ODI, also in England, in September 24 after undergoing surgery on his back, will play the first of five games for Gloucestershire in the English county competition with Aussie batters and bowlers dominating.
Gloucestershire will play Kent in a four-day match beginning on Friday with Green’s Western Australian teammate and former Test opener Cameron Bancroft in sizzling form.
In his first innings for the season, Bancroft’s fourth with the county side where he’s been made captain, he smashed 163, passing 11,000 first-class runs on his way to his 31st career hundred.

Green, who played his last two Tests in New Zealand early in 2024, which included a career-best and match-winning 174 not out in Wellington, is set to play as a batter only in the UK.
But before departing, he said he would have been ready to go for last month’s Sheffield Shield final, had WA made it.
“The surgery has been incredible,” Green said.
“I think I was probably off (my) legs for about two weeks. And after that I’ve been doing gym work for the last four or five months, been running for the last two months, been batting for the last month. It’s been pretty seamless. So, yeah, pretty happy I got it done.
“It’s for the long-term goal of playing cricket for as long as I can. Bowling for as long as I can. I got it for that reason, solely. Obviously I could have healed (the stress fracture) over nine months, but I took the option to get the surgery, and hopefully, fingers crossed, that’s the last of it, which would be nice.”
In Green’s absence, Mitch Marsh struggled and was dropped, replaced by all-rounder Beau Webster for the final match against India and then he also travelled to Sri Lanka.
Webster is also headed to the UK to continue to push his own cause to keep his spot for the WTC final against South Africa in July.
He will arrive at the beginning of May to play for Warwickshire.
