An NBL player has been sent to a Canberra hospital for assessment on his neck after a freak training accident.
Second-year Adelaide 36ers centre Ben Griscti was injured after one of the AIS Arena backboards landed on him.
Multiple reports suggested Griscti and the 36ers were midway through a shootaround on Saturday when a teammate landed a dunk, leading to the backboard collapsing and falling on Griscti as he attempted to collect the ball.

The 23-year-old, who’s in Canberra with the 36ers for the NBL Blitz pre-season competition, was taken to hospital approximately two hours after the incident following initial assessment from medicos.
ESPN reported Griscti had “limited feeling in his right arm” for a short period of time before quickly regaining all feeling, with the 36ers confirming Griscti was in good spirits and able to walk when the ambulance arrived.
The NBL released a statement on Saturday, confirming it was “aware of a training incident” involving Griscti
“Griscti is in a stable condition in hospital,” the league statement said.
“The circumstances surrounding the incident will be investigated.”
The league added all Blitz games scheduled for Saturday would go ahead as scheduled.
An Adelaide product, Griscti is in his second year on the 36ers roster.
