Mr Caspary (EPP), endorsed in a secret vote with 411 votes in favour, 206 against and 25 abstentions, has been serving as an MEP since 2004.
He received a favourable opinion from the Budgetary Control Committee on 20 November 2025, following a hearing held earlier the same day.
The mandate of the current German ECA Member, Klaus-Heiner Lehne, expires on 28 February 2026.
Next steps
The final decision will be taken by member state ministers in the Council of the EU.
Background
As stipulated in the EU Treaty, each member state proposes one candidate to serve on the ECA. The Council of the EU, after consulting the European Parliament, adopts the list of members for a six-year term.
