News of Jack Silvagni’s impending exit from Carlton as an unrestricted free agent broke on Tuesday evening, as the 27-year-old weighs up a number of potential suitors.
One of those clubs very interested in acquiring his services is Collingwood, with head coach Craig McRae quizzed on his interest in the utility after revealing their “date” together late last month.
“We had a date, and he hasn’t called. He’s dating someone else I hear!” McRae told AFL 360 with a laugh.
“I don’t do seconds date in this place, I leave it up to others. Apparently the Bulldogs are meeting with him too.
“I don’t know where it lands (though). We like to continue to grow as I’ve always said, and make our club a destination club for guys like him to come.
“We’ll wait and see on that one.”
The Western Bulldogs and Essendon are two other rival Victorian clubs who have publicly voiced their interest in Silvagni, after playing nine years and 128 games of AFL at Ikon Park.
FIVE-CLUB HUNT FOR FORGOTTEN SUN REVEALED
The name Malcolm Rosas Jnr isn’t new in trade circles these last two seasons, but the extent of which clubs are chasing him has officially stepped up a notch.
Fox Footy reporter Jon Ralph revealed to Midweek Tackle that a handful of clubs have now made genuine contact with the small forward, who is yet to re-sign at Gold Coast.
“Malcolm Rosas Jnr has met with, or had communication with five clubs,” Ralph said on Tuesday night.
“What a crazy market it is for small forwards right now! Richmond, Carlton, Essendon, Sydney and Melbourne (are interested).
“To think a player who’s played four games this year (with) only one goal, and yet, everyone wants a small forward there.”
Senior Herald Sun journalist Glenn McFarlane added: “Strange days indeed.”
Selected by the Suns in 2019 via their academy pre-selection access, Rosas debuted at AFL level in Round 9 2021, and has played 49 matches all up.
Unfortunately for the 24-year-old though, he has been unable to maintain his place in the senior side since 2023, where he kicked 19 goals from as many games.
