Vendors selected for the ‘Cool Vendor’ report are ‘innovative, impactful and intriguing’
LONDON, UK. 18th JUNE 2015 – Figshare, an online repository for academic researchers to securely store, manage, publish and share all their research, today announced it has been included in the ‘Cool Vendors in Education, 2015’[1] report by Gartner, Inc. The report evaluates vendors that have been innovative in bringing digital productivity tools directly to teachers, researchers, and even parents and children.
Figshare provides an easy-to-use cloud-based data tool to academic institutions around the globe to help them manage and showcase their research data. The platform allows researchers to share, cite and discover their raw scientific research outputs, including data, figures, images, video and even software code. Figshare, a Digital Science portfolio company, also works with journal publishers to provide supplementary data alongside scientific articles.
Mark Hahnel, the founder of Figshare, said: “We consider our inclusion in the Cool Vendor report by Gartner confirmation of our mission to open up scientific research and data to the world. There’s a growing movement around Figshare amongst people who want to change the way scientific research and data are used. We are proud to receive this recognition.”

About Figshare
Figshare was the brainchild of Mark Hahnel, who became frustrated at not being able to publish ALL his scientific research whilst studying for his PhD in stem cell biology at Imperial College, London. Figshare enables academic researchers to make all of their research outputs available in a citable, sharable and discoverable manner. The platform allows users to upload any file format in the browser so that figures, datasets, media, papers, posters, presentations and filesets can be disseminated in a way that the current scholarly publishing model does not allow. Figshare is a portfolio company of Digital Science. For more information, visit http://figshare.com
