Collingwood’s Dan McStay is set to spend at least six weeks on the sidelines with scans confirming the 29-year-old sustained a medial collateral ligament strain to his left knee during the Anzac Day match against Essendon at the MCG.
McStay was subbed out of the game after sustaining the injury in a pack in the goal square in the third quarter.
The Magpies went onto win by 41 points, but they feared the key forward had ruptured his anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) on the same knee he did in late 2023.

McStay has a wretched history of knee issues after he also missed Collingwood’s premiership that same year with an MCL injury to his right knee.
Despite the initial fears being relieved, Collingwood’s Executive General Manager of Football Charlie Gardiner expressed the Club’s disappointment with McStay’s prognosis.
“Unfortunately, scans confirmed this morning that Dan has sustained a moderate grade MCL injury during yesterday’s Anzac Day match against Essendon. The injury is expected to see him out of the game for the next six to eight weeks,” Gardiner said.
“This is obviously a disappointing set back for Dan who has been in good form and has played a really important role for the team so far this season.
“Dan is an absolute professional and has shown a remarkable ability to bounce back from injury and setbacks across his career so we are confident he’ll play an important role for us in the second half of the season.”
