The Dragons have officially signed Valentine Holmes on a three-year deal from 2025 as coach Shane Flanagan continues strengthen his roster.
The centre had one year remaining on his current Cowboys contract which was reportedly worth upwards of a million dollars for 2025.
The 29-year-old’s signature is the latest in Flanagan’s recent recruitment drive which includes former Blues and Australian hooker Damien Cook who will also join the club next year.
The move will see Holmes reunite with his 2016 NRL Premiership-winning mentor Flanagan who certainly got the best out of the outside back during their time together in the Shire.

Holmes will add significant experience to Flanagan’s side after playing 20 Tests for Australia and 19 Origin matches for the Maroons.
“Valentine is a top-class, versatile player who will be a great asset for our club over the coming seasons,” Flanagan said.
“He has played centre, wing and fullback at the elite level over a long period and is also a fantastic goal-kicker.
“We look forward to welcoming Val and his family to the Red V next year.”
EELS STOP THE ROT, EXTEND KEY OUTSIDE BACK
It has been a horror season for the Eels on field and in recruitment, but they’ve announced some good news, with outside back Bailey Simonsson extending for a further three years until the end of 2027.
Simonsson, who is out for the year with a knee injury, was an important part of Parramatta’s run to the grand final in 2022.
He’s been a solid performer since, although his 2024 campaign was cut short when he suffered an ACL injury.
The Eels will lose stud rookies Blaize Talagi and Ethan Sanders to other clubs at season’s end, so Simonsson’s re-signing is a win the club needed amid a tough season.
“I love this Club and everybody involved in it. I feel at home here, so it was an easy decision for me to stay and work towards where I want to be and where the Club deserves to be,” Simonsson said via a club-issued statement.
DOLPHINS RE-SIGN VETERAN PLAYMAKER
The Dolphins have announced a playmakers re-signing less than a day after it was confirmed one of the club’s forwards was following Wayne Bennett to Sydney.
Veteran playmaker Kodi Nikorima has agreed to a new two-year contract with the Dolphins, meaning his time at the club will run until at least the end of 2026.
An inaugural member of the Dolphins’ squad, Nikorima has been brilliant for the Dolphins, where he’s played 39 of his 199 NRL games.
In 2024, the 30-year-old five-eighth has played 18 games, scoring twice and creating 15 tries for teammates while acting as the perfect foil for talented halfback Isaiya Katoa.
Dolphins chief executive Terry Reader said the club are “very pleased to have secured the services of Kodi for another two years.”
“He has been consistently dangerous for us in the halves since joining the Dolphins last year.”
Nikorima’s new deal means the Dolphins have long-term continuity in their spine, with Katoa locked in until 2028, fullback Hamiso Tabuai-Fidow signed until 2027 and hooker Jeremy Marshall-King committed to the club until 2028.
AITKEN FOLLOWS WAYNE SOUTH
The Rabbitohs have officially announced the signing of the versatile Euan Aitken on a bumper three-year deal, with the Dolphins star to follow coach Wayne Bennett to South Sydney at season’s end.
Unfortunately for Aitken, he has played his last game with the expansion club having been ruled out for the rest of the 2024 season with a torn pec.
Aitken underwent surgery back in July to repair the painful injury, but won’t be able to return until next season.
Souths Head of Football Mark Ellison says Aitken’s skillset will help improve the Rabbitohs’ roster.
“Euan is a proven performer at NRL level and has also played representative football, all ingredients that will bring experience and ability to our forward pack over the next three seasons,” Ellison said.
“He is uncompromising in defence and can find the try line in attack.”
The 29-year-old has played in the centres and the second row across 192 games, forging a role as a consistent left edge forward during his time with the Dolphins.

He’ll likely slot straight into the second row to form a formidable back row partnership with Cam Murray and Keaon Kolomatangi.
As it stands right now, Aitken is so far the only confirmed Dolphins player to follow Bennett and sign with Souths.
The master coach has signed a three-year deal with the Rabbitohs until the end of the 2027 season.
