The day begins at 9.00 with a key debate on the proposed Ukraine peace plan and EU commitment to a just and lasting peace. MEPs will be joined by European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen and Danish Minister for European Affairs Marie Bjerre for the Council presidency. Plenary will vote on a resolution tomorrow.

Protection of minors online
Following a plenary debate yesterday, MEPs will vote at noon on their recommendations to make the internet safer for children and young people, including possible bans on harmful practices such as addictive design and gambling-like game features, and a minimum age of 16 for social media access. A press conference with rapporteur Christel Schaldemose (S&D, DK) is scheduled for 15.00.
Defence of democracy package
Proposals on new transparency requirements for interest representation activities by non-EU countries will be up for debate from around 17.00 with Commissioner Roxana Mînzatu. The draft directive addresses potential foreign influence in European democratic processes. There will be a press conference at 11.00 with rapporteur Adina Vălean (EPP, RO). The vote on Parliament’s position ahead of negotiations with the Council will take place tomorrow.

Simplifying new EU deforestation law
MEPs will vote at noon on targeted proposals to make implementation of the law more straightforward for business. These include transition periods and measures to improve the IT system used for electronic due diligence statements.

In brief
Russian and Belarusian airspace violations and sabotage From around 14.00, MEPs and Commissioner Mînzatu will debate the ongoing threats to EU airspace and critical infrastructure posed by Russia and Belarus, following the detection of smuggling balloons drifting from Belarus into Lithuanian airspace and the recent act of sabotage on a railway line in Poland.
2026 EU budget. The provisional agreement on the 2026 budget reached last week with Council will be put to a final plenary vote today at noon. The President of the European Parliament will then sign the EU’s 2026 budget into law.
Disability rights. In a debate starting at around 16.00 with Commissioner Mînzatu, MEPs will assess the achievements so far of the 2021-2030 strategy for the rights of persons with disabilities, and discuss future challenges. They will vote tomorrow on a draft resolution.
Breaches of human rights, democracy and the rule of law. In a series of debates with Commissioner Albuquerque, starting at around 19.00, MEPs will discuss: the post-election killings and deteriorating human rights situation in Tanzania; the escalating repression of the Baha’i in Iran; and the rule of law and human rights situation in Tunisia.
Protection of Christians across the world. This session’s topical debate, requested by the EPP, will focus on the situation of Christian communities and religious minorities in Nigeria and the Middle East, and Europe’s responsibility to protect them.
Votes
At noon, MEPs will vote, among others, on:
- a resolution on the EU’s diplomatic strategy for the Arctic;
- a non-legislative resolution on protecting EU consumers against the practices of non-compliant e-commerce platforms, focused on the case of child-like sex dolls, weapons and other illegal products and material;
- a proposal to simplify InvestEU reporting requirements and expand its financial capacity, and
- an objection to a delegated act regarding labelling for fruit and vegetables originating in the non-self-governing territory of Western Sahara.
