Showing a brilliant combination of power and movement, Nadal impressed all observers and while a two-week slam campaign is still going to be difficult for him as he makes his way back, the Spaniard clearly cannot be underestimated.
“I need matches. I need health. Everyday I can play a match it’s great news for me!” he declared post-match.
Nadal will face another Aussie, Jordan Thompson, in the quarter-finals – after making it to the last eight of a tournament for the 225th time in his career.
