The Power coach heading into his 13th year as head coach will hand over the reins to assistant Josh Carr at season’s end, with the 58-year-old at the ready to make one final charge for the ultimate success at AFL level.
The match simulation taking place at Mt Barker’s Summit Sport and Recreation Park will be Hinkley’s first opportunity to coach new recruits Jack Lukosius, Joe Richards and Rory Atkins who joined Alberton last October. His side has named every available player in their squad, meaning Power fans will get a look at new draftees Joe Berry, Jack Whitlock and this week’s SSP signing Josh Lai among others.
As for Matthew Nicks’ Crows, most — but not all —of their recruits over the off-season will line up against their new rivals. Alex Neal-Bullen and James Peatling will pull on the tri-colours for the first time at the Crows nest, as will emerging star Sid Draper and father-son pick Tyler Welsh. Isaac Cumming (managed) however will miss the match, with his focus fixed on next week’s official pre-season game against Brisbane.
Highly touted livewire Wayne Milera will suit up for his first match since a knee injury prematurely ended his 2024.
The match will be played across six 28-minute periods, with a 12-minute break after the first three terms. During this break, the Crows and Power are expected to alternate rotate their players on-field.
