The finals have come early in a Thursday night blockbuster to begin Round 22 as Collingwood and Hawthorn square off in a massive top-eight shaping clash.
The Hawks (13-7, 117.6%) need to beat at least one top-four rival over the next three weeks to be sure they’ll play finals, finishing the year with Melbourne (MCG) and Brisbane (Gabba).
Meanwhile, the Magpies (15-5, 130.8%) have dropped three of their last four games to fall out of top spot, and if they lose to the Hawks, could slip out of the top four entirely before September starts with Adelaide to come next week.

The two sides have alternated wins against each other this decade, with history suggesting it’s Hawthorn’s turn, having lost to the Magpies by 51 points when they were at the peak of the powers back in Round 12.
The Hawks made two changes with gun midfielder Will Day and Harry Morrison both going out hurt, replaced by Luke Breust and Changkuoth Jiath.
The Magpies were bolstered in defence by the returns of Jeremy Howe and Billy Frampton, while Tom Mitchell returns to the midfield despite concerns over his fit alongside Ned Long. Charlie Dean and Oleg Markov are omitted while Bobby Hill misses with gastro.
The first bounce will hit the MCG turf at 7:30pm AEST in Melbourne, with the substitutes and final teams for each side to be confirmed an hour beforehand.
Watch it live on Fox Footy (channel 504), and stream it on Kayo, from 6:30pm.
