In an absolutely stunning development, the Adelaide 36ers have reportedly signed five-time MVP Bryce Cotton to a three-year deal.
Code Sports reported the NBL is yet to sign off on deal but that if everything goes to plan, it could be announced as early as Friday.
The news came out of nowhere given Cotton was widely expected to play overseas having been linked with a move to Japan under former Wildcats coach Trevor Gleeson.
At the time that he announced he would be leaving the Wildcats after nine seasons with the club, a return back to the NBL in the immediate future was considered unlikely.
The move appears to be all but confirmed considering this not-so-subtle tweet that the 36ers dropped on Thursday night.
Cotton’s impending arrival would more than make up for the loss of Davis, who signed with the Kings after an impressive first season in the NBL saw him finish runner-up to the former Wildcats superstar in MVP voting.
Cotton finished his Wildcats career on a high, enjoying another productive season where he averaged 28.1 points per game and dropped a modern NBL record 59 points in a 123-112 win over the Breakers.
The 36ers had been active in free agency before the reported move for Cotton, having signed Flynn Cameron (Melbourne United), Isaac White (Brisbane Bullets), Michael Harris (Perth Wildcats) and Matt Kenyon (South East Melbourne Phoenix).
