The New Zealand Ferns have run out comfortable 28-10 winners over Mate Ma’a Tonga in their Pacific Championships clash at Eden Park.
Star centre Abigail Roache scored a hat-trick for the Ferns, including two tries in the first ten minutes as New Zealand took control of the game early.
Tonga hit back through Sharks star Tiana Penitani in the 25th minute to trim the margin to four points with the Ferns heading into the break up 10-6.

The Ferns turned on the jets from there, scoring four tries to Tonga’s one.
The 28-10 victory was a return to the winners’ circle for the Ferns, who hung tough against Australia in a 16-10 loss in the Pacific Championships opener last Saturday in Townsville.
New Zealand will head back into Australia to meet the Jillaroos in Melbourne on October 28.
