Trey Lance could take his talents north of the border.
The 25-year-old free-agent quarterback, whose contract with the Cowboys expired earlier this month, has been added to the negotiation list for the Saskatchewan Roughriders in the Canadian Football League, according to multiple reports.
Lance — the third overall pick by the 49ers in the 2021 NFL Draft — has yet to declare his next move as of Wednesday.
Lance has been a huge disappointment across four NFL seasons with the 49ers and the Cowboys, tallying only 143 pass attempts.
He won the starting job over Jimmy Garoppolo in San Francisco in 2022 but only appeared in two games before suffering a season-ending ankle injury.

Lance appeared in eight games with four starts in his two seasons with the 49ers — getting surpassed by Brock Purdy on the depth chart — before he was traded to Dallas for a fourth-round draft pick in August 2023.
In two seasons with the Cowboys, Lance played in four games with one start — Dallas’ meaningless season finale in January.
Lance completed 20 of 34 passes for 244 yards and also ran for 26 yards in a 23-19 loss to the Commanders. He was mostly a third-string backup for the Cowboys behind Dak Prescott and Cooper Rush.
His father, Carlton Lance, played cornerback for the Roughriders in 1993.
The Saskatchewan Roughriders would have exclusive rights to negotiate a contract with Lance, should he choose to continue his playing career in the CFL.
