The Conference on the Future of Europe was a forum that put people at the heart of the EU’s decision-making process and enabled them to influence the path the Union will take.
The European Parliament has been committed to follow up and deliver on people’s proposals made during the Conference to reinforce the EU’s capacity to act, its democratic legitimacy and accountability.

At every plenary session, MEPs discuss and adopt legislative proposals that are directly linked to the ideas formulated at the Conference. In addition, Parliament recognises that some of the proposals require profound changes in the way the European Union functions. That is why MEPs put forward concrete proposals to reform the European treaties.
The Conference was a democratic exercise that started in 2021. A year later it resulted in 49 proposals and more than 300 concrete measures to be implemented, on topics ranging from climate change and the digital transition to migration and threats to the EU budget.
The event brought together the three main EU Institutions, citizens, EU representatives, national parliaments and regional authorities.
“The Parliament is dedicated to ensuring a concrete and meaningful outcome” from the Conference,” said Parliament President Roberta Metsola. “Together, we can preserve the momentum needed to make the EU fit for purpose in the 21st century.”
