Australian sprint sensation Gout Gout has missed breaking the magical 10-second barrier in the 100 metres by the barest of margins at a Queensland meet.
Gout ran 10.00 (+0.9) at the Dane Bird-Smith Shield Meet at QSAC on Saturday afternoon, which breaks the Oceanic record of 10.15 (+1.5) set by Jake Doran in 2018.

It equalled the best legal time by an Australian in Australia ever, matching Lachlan Kennedy at the Aussie titles last April.
“It’s a really solid first up run,’’ Gout’s manager James Templeton told News Corp.
“Gout has been going well in training. He’s been feeling good these last weeks. There was no pressure on today’s season opener but he and Di (coach Di Sheppard) were confident he was ready to run well.”
The 10-second run is Gout’s first qualifying performance as he prepares for the World Athletics Under 20 Championships.
He has decided to prioritise August’s championships in Eugene, Oregon over the Commonwealth Games.
The 18-year-old broke the 10-second barrier with illegal wind assistance twice in one day at a Perth event last April, before running a hand-timed 9.94 seconds at a schools event in August.
Neither officially count.
Only two Australians have run a legal sub-10 second time – Patrick Johnson’s 9.93 in 2003, and Lachlan Kennedy’s 9.98 last June.
Rohan Browning ran a wind-assisted 9.96 in 2021 and a 10.01 at the Tokyo Olympics.
The fastest time by any man on Australian soil was Maurice Greene’s 9.87 for gold at the Sydney Olympics.
