GWS captain Toby Greene has been dealt yet another big blow to his front pocket, after being cited by the AFL for two separate incidents during his side’s 52-point win over Collingwood on Sunday.
The 31-year-old has been sanctioned a total of $11,500 during the match for allegedly making careless contact with an umpire in the second quarter of the Giants’ win at ENGIE Stadium, before being written up for reportedly kneeing Collingwood player Reef McInnes during the start of the second half.

The latter offence has a hefty price tag of $10,000 attached to it, which looks set to be reduced down to $6,250 with an early plea. Similarly, his sanction for careless umpire contact will be reduced from $1,500 to a grand with the same plea.

Greene’s knee to the Collingwood defender was classified by the Match Review Officer as intentional, low impact and body contact. He has now been fined $44,100 across his 13 seasons at the top level — making him the most fined player in the competition’s history ahead of Port Adelaide’s Zak Butters.
Greene’s teammate Lachie Ash has been fined an initial sum of $6,250 for his scuffle with Magpies veteran Scott Pendlebury in the third quarter, which can be slashed by 40 per cent with an early plea.
The Giants next play Melbourne at the MCG on Sunday afternoon, and will be without ruck Kieran Briggs who was concussed during their home-and-away season opener.
